Dear Readers:
IT STILL FEELS LIKE SUMMER IN SOUTH TEXAS, but the fall semester is just getting under-
way with a record number of students on campus. We passed the 8,800 mark
this fall, and campus is full of activity. In this issue, we share with you many of
the ways we are changing the lives of our students and the community around
us. Our faculty and students are involved in research that
may have implications in the treatment of snake bites
around the world. Our ROTC cadets are carrying
