THE NATIONAL MARKETPLACE TO BUY & SELL NEW AND USED INDUSTRIAL MACHINERY
WEEKLY
March 21, 2022 Volume 39, Issue 12 800-203-9960
The first thing to wear out on a CNC
Machine is often the drawbar springs!
Belleville springs provide the only force that holds tools in the spindle while
cutting, and they are often the first to wear out on a CNC Machining Center.
Drawbars can have over 140 Belleville springs in the stack. Just the slightest
wear, or one broken spring will have a huge effect on clamping force, causing
chatter, bad finishes, reduced cutter life, and scrapped parts.
Ball-type gripper
Pull-Stud
Disc Springs
A typical drawbar assembly.
Left unchecked, a tool may eventually pull out of the spindle during a cut and
damage the spindle, cutter, arbor, and fixture.
Machines are never the same after a crash.
