BITE OF THE IGUANA
When conducting research for the College of
Natural and Health Sciences Undergraduate
Research Symposium that took place
in April, Kaiden Mortimer ’22, a marine
science-biology major, found inspiration
from her pet iguana, Rayne. “It started as a
small project in my microbiology class,” says
Mortimer, who collected several species of
bacteria from Rayne’s mouth to gain a better
understanding of infections that humans can
receive from iguana bites. ut.edu/utjournal
