UPDATING CLASSICS<br />
Royal Copenhagen’s Blue Fluted Plain dinner service was its first (hence its alternative name<br />
‘Pattern Number 1’) and is its most enduring. Since its creation in 1775 the elegant porcelain<br />
collection, with its distinctive hand-painted blue floral decoration on top of the delicate ridged<br />
fluting, has become a true classic and now has many collectors around the world in addition to<br />
those people who just use and love it every day. But even the most historic designs need to be<br />
looked at with fresh eyes occasionally and in 2000 the Blue Fluted Mega collection was<br />
unveiled. With its modern abstraction and development of the classic Pattern Number 1 design,<br />
it was an instant success.<br />
Continuing the process of updating and renewing the classics, this autumn Royal Copenhagen<br />
