<br /> summer<br /> message from the president<br /> Dear Readers:<br /> The idea of bringing a university to South Texas began around the time of World<br /> War I. As the conflict came to a close, the university began to take root. Our doors<br /> opened to the first class of Javelinas in 1925; now, what once was a small college<br /> for teacher preparation has become Javelina Nation.<br /> As an institution that is focused on preparing students for the future, we spend a<br /> great deal of time assessing programs and projecting future needs. Upon reach-<br /> ing our 90th year of operation, we spent some time reflecting on the milestones<br /> we have reached and the changing needs of our nation and students. Many things<br /> have changed, but remarkably, many have stayed constant.<br /> The dedication of our faculty and staff is a hallmark of this institution, and it re-<br /> mains intact today.
