Dear Readers:
The idea of bringing a university to South Texas began around the time of World
War I. As the conflict came to a close, the university began to take root. Our doors
opened to the first class of Javelinas in 1925; now, what once was a small college
for teacher preparation has become Javelina Nation.
As an institution that is focused on preparing students for the future, we spend a
great deal of time assessing programs and projecting future needs. Upon reach-
ing our 90th year of operation, we spent some time reflecting on the milestones
we have reached and the changing needs of our nation and students. Many things
have changed, but remarkably, many have stayed constant.
The dedication of our faculty and staff is a hallmark of this institution, and it re-
mains intact today. The perseverance of our students also remains, and is evident in
